What is Thyroid Surgery?

Thyroid surgery involves removal of all or part of the thyroid gland, located in the front of the neck. It is commonly performed to treat thyroid nodules, goiter, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid cancer.

Types of Thyroid Surgery

1. Total Thyroidectomy

Complete removal of the thyroid gland, usually done in cancer or large goiters.

2. Hemithyroidectomy (Lobectomy)

Removal of one side (lobe) of the thyroid gland.

3. Subtotal Thyroidectomy

Partial removal of the thyroid, leaving a small portion behind.

Goal: Treat disease while preserving normal body functions and hormone balance.

What is Parathyroid Surgery?

Parathyroid surgery is performed to remove one or more abnormal parathyroid glands. These glands regulate calcium levels in the body.

Types of Parathyroid Surgery

1. Minimally Invasive Parathyroidectomy

Small incision surgery targeting the abnormal gland with quicker recovery.

2. Bilateral Neck Exploration

All four glands are examined to identify and remove the affected ones.

Common Condition: Hyperparathyroidism (excess hormone causing high calcium levels).
